In the heart of New York City, where diversity thrives and creativity knows no bounds, inclusive theatre stands as a beacon of hope, unity, and empowerment. Now, more than ever, there is a critical need to support and champion inclusive theatre initiatives that celebrate diversity, challenge stereotypes, and foster a sense of belonging for all individuals.
At Chickenshed NYC we address that need head on by:
- Breaking Down Barriers: Whether they be physical, social, or cultural, our inclusive theatre practices create spaces where everyone is welcome and valued.
- Creating Representation: We provide a platform for all voices to be heard and stories to be told.
- Promoting Social Justice: Through the power of storytelling, we shine a spotlight on social issues, spark important conversations and inspire meaningful change.
However, as with most not-for-profit our earned income doesn't cover our operational costs as you can see outlined in this Pie Chart:
The good news is that there are many meaningful ways you can contribute: Swap a take-out coffee for a monthly donation
- Organize a Matching Gift by mulitplying your gift with a company's matching gift program. Just request a matching gift form from the company and send the completed form to Ali@chickenshednyc.org.
- Donate in-kind support such as printing services, technical equipment for productions, snacks or water for our programs and performances
- Make a one-time contribution in any amount either through our donation link or sending a check payable to: American Friends of Chicken Shed and posing t to 1441 Broadway, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
With you support we can continue to make an impact on the community we serve by:
- Providing a platform that empowers children and teens to express themselves, build confidence, and share their perspectives with their peers, family, and community.
- Building an inclusive theatrical environment that brings people together from all walks of life, creating a sense of community and connection that transcends differences.
- Educating participants through our workshops, performances, and community programs, to discover and learn about themselves and others in meaningful ways that promote empathy and kindness, and inspires them to be the next generation of artists and change makers.

Your team and the youth players were amazing in videos and on stage. By chance, I was lucky to have been seated next to a parent who spoke so highly of the impact Chickenshed has had on her child. It really struck me that Chickenshed not only helped her child flourish but also gave her a sense of belonging in a place where her child is accepted for exactly who her child is. Before Chickenshed, she expressed only hearing about the need to address deficits and what clinical interventions were necessary. Chickenshed welcomed her child, period. It was just beautiful to hear.
